ABOUT FLAMING SWORD

Flaming Sword Productions is the culmination of a 70 year exile of the comic book creators from their creations, by the marketing and economic conditions about them - an exile which began when Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster found themselves unable to publish the industry's first comic book without negotiating away their creative and financial independence.

Long strides and serious breakthroughs have been made since then by the creators, on the road back to independence. Will Eisner and a host of others, back in the 1940's, showed that independent production studios were a viable force which allowed for the creation of long lasting properties that the creators retained ownership of. In the 1970's, Mike Friedrich pioneered a model for independent publishing which opened the doors for the hundreds of independent comics enterprises thriving in the industry today. The most prominent of these, Image Comics, was established by an inspired coalition of creators who succeeded in breaking the chains of corporate captivity over their work. Yet throughout all this, the breakthroughs have been limited to the benefit of the few who made them and not to the collective entirety of the creator community. For 70 years, the industry's creators remained in want of the umbrella organization which would give them unity and strength in numbers, needed to improve their lot in life and to give back the best they have to offer to the comics readership.

In the 1960's, Arnold Drake attempted to unite comics creators into a union and found that the time wasn't yet ripe. Neal Adams led another such attempt in the 1970's and continues to encourage it's rise today. Len Wein, Kurt Buziek and Heidi MacDonald, amongst others, also made another effort in the 1980's. The communications and operations network needed to gather the creators together wasn't yet available then, however, long before the age of global communications available to us today on the world wide web.

The groundwork for the formation of The Comic book Creators' Guild and its publishing arm, Flaming Sword Productions, has been laid over this 70 year interval by the collective efforts of the comics creators and is coming to fruition today. The communications and operations network needed to draw the creators together is beginning to take shape, in the form of the countless internet communities and forums the creators have established.

Flaming Sword Productions rises today through the cumulative call being heard from the creator community - a collective call nurtured and raised through the last several years of wide forum discussions on the issues pertinent to the comics and creators. In essence, Flaming Sword Productions is the wide-scope consensus amongst the creator community, for what the comic book industry needs today as it strives for parity with its sister entertainment forms.

We look for the growing support of the comic book creators in this effort. For the growing support of the comics community and readership in encouraging its rise. Above all, michaelnetzer.com is a business venture leading the way for a burst of the the comic book form into the wider markets it dared not venture into before. The popular and economic success of Flaming Sword will guarantee the comics industry its rightful place in the cultural and entertainment worlds.

Flaming Sword Productions is a publishing and productions empire in the making. Visit our Shop and show your support for our first offerings. THE COMIC BOOK CREATORS' GUILD

We believe that a strong union of the comic book creators will help secure a better future for the comic book industry within the global entertainment and marketing environments it thrives.

The Comic Book Creators' Guild will strive to set new standards for the conditions under which the creators work, including the institution of retirement and medical benefits, legal counseling for newly created properties along with informative research of the fast changing arena of copyright law for existing ones, emergency funding for the support of colleagues in distress and the establishing of our own publishing, marketing and entertainment arms as a base from which to help provide creative and financial independence for the creators.

THE NEW COMIC BOOK OF LIFE

The notion that humanity is nearing an end to its long held social, political and economic hierarchies is no longer a fear-instilled speculation in this troubled and stormy age. It is now becoming increasingly clear that the cries of war have deafened our calls for peace - and that the suffering has taken its toll on the souls of this once noble civilization.

How do we begin the long journey back to the remembrance that we've all come from one source? How do we begin our journey back to peace through unity?
