Superman Merchandising Icon | 1977-2007
Galleries
Friday, 09 November 2007

Back in 1977, I labored for weeks with the pencils for the image below for DC licensing and merchandising use, aiming at a classical rendition of Superman which defined what the character evokes. It was done within the framework of an assignment at Continuity Graphics Associates and was inked by Neal Adams. It went on to become the definitive Superman image which DC used for merchandising throughout the 1980's. Many Superman enthusiasts remember it today with sentimental and fond regard.

The image below is as recent rendition of the same art. Without diminishing from Neal Adams' masterful and incomparable craftsmanship, the newly inked image below explores a contemporary approach to this art, based on the fabulous wealth of knowledge and ability all of us at Continuity were fortunate to have absorbed.
